Australia is an Oceania region located between the South Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. Lying Southeast of Asia, Australia is the world’s smallest continent and the sixth largest country with a total area of 7,686,850 km2, making it slightly smaller than the Continental United States by approximately 5%. Australia is the lowest, flattest and driest of all the continents.
There are many mountains in Australia. Its highest mountain is Mount Kosciuszko which is 7310 feet above sea level. It is located in the snowy mountains region in New South Wales.
Aside from its highest mountain, Australia’s longest river system  Murray and its tributary, the Darling River are the main rivers in the Murray-Darling River Basin. It comprises the major part of interior lowlands of Australia, covering about 14% of Australia.
Australia is also one of the driest continents around the world. 35% of Australia receives very little rain, and so it is classified as a desert. The largest desert in Australia the Great Victoria Desert at 348,750 km2. The total deserts in Australia covers about 18% of the country.

  1. Australia is not very geographically similar to India. As I read in your post, Australia is considered a desert, which I was actually previously unaware of. This contrasts from India, which although has few deserts, mainly consists of variations of tropical climates. Both India and Australia do have large river systems though! Except India's three main river systems span over a large portion of the country.
