a)
Population
What’s the population of
the country? Compare this to the population of the US. (Hint: The US population is 318,860,032 and counting (it gets higher
every 8 seconds, but use this number for the assignment.)
The population in Australia is projected
to be 23,989,941 people. This projection is based on the estimated resident
population on June 30, 2015 and assumes growth since the of one birth every 1
minute, one death every 3 minutes, a net gain of one international migration
every 2 minutes leading to an overall total population of one person every 1
minute and 31 seconds.
Where do people live in this country? Rural
areas? Urban areas? What are the populations in two cities you used for Question
2b)?
Australia is one of the most sparsely
populated countries in the world. People live only on 3% of its lands. Australia
recently became urbanized so majority of people live in urban cities. The
population in Sydney and Canberra are about 4,840,000 (Sydney) and 379,600
(Canberra). Canberra is not very populated.
b)
Agriculture
What types
of agriculture do they have and what type of diet do they have?
Some
of the crops that farmers grow in Australia include wheat, vegetables, fruits,
cotton, sugarcane, barley, and canola (Britannica). Crops of somewhat lesser
value to the economy include oats, sunflower seeds, and tobacco. In the colder
regions of Australia, a breakfast of porridge, or bacon and eggs is typical to
the Australian diet. Unlike America where breakfast is what we consider the
most important meal of the day. In Australia, dinner is the main meal of the
day. Typical choices include roast meat with vegetables, pasta, pizza, stir fry
or barbecued meat (Australian Cuisine).
c)
Industry
and Tourism
Are industry
and tourism related to geography and climate?
There
are many tourist destinations across Australia. That being said, Tourism is
very important to Australia’s economy. Just like Hawaii, there are many things
to do. Its beautiful climate and breathtaking views make it a perfect place to
visit! The things tourists could do while at Australia range from outback
journeys, nature discovery, driving itineraries, coastal journeys and
aboriginal discovery. The sunny days at Sydney lets you enjoy a beautiful day
at the beach, or go hiking. Also, sunrise could be seen on Australia’s World
Heritage Icon like the Sydney Opera House.
d)
Cultural
Activities
Are there
any notable historical events that add to the climate/culture story?
There
weren’t any historical events but there are many cultural activities and
attractions that allow tourists to come visit Australia. The Iconic Sydney
Opera House, National Gallery of Victoria, Gallery of Modern Art, and many
more. Many of these attractions show the history of Australia.
